CHESAPEAKE, Va. — R. Dean Minnix, LS, has been hired by Woolpert as a senior project surveyor, working out of the firm’s Chesapeake office. Minnix has more than 30 years of experience coordinating and managing highway projects with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
While at VDOT, Minnix served as a survey manager, land surveyor supervisor and interim district survey manager, coordinating functions and phases of multiple highway projects from pre-scoping to post construction.
Minnix said his decision to move into the private sector was prompted, in part, by his experiences with Woolpert, which has provided VDOT with quality deliverables and support for more than 25 years. At the firm, Minnix said he hopes to increase his knowledge base outside of transportation projects.
“Woolpert is an ever-growing organization with a widespread range of valued services, technical progressiveness and versatility of projects, which is what piqued my interest in the firm,” Minnix said. “I hope to obtain supplementary expertise though anticipated innovative experiences provided via Woolpert’s extensive scope of capabilities.”
A licensed land surveyor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Minnix also is affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Surveyors and the Project Management Institute. He also holds a degree in applied science, with a focus on civil engineering technology, as well as certificates in surveying science.
Minnix said professional development is his primary objective, noting that he has a passion for the work and feels compelled to make a difference. He said he will have that opportunity at Woolpert.
