Stantec Expands Washington, DC Design Team

Washington, DC, NYSE, TSX: STN: Stantec, a top-ten global design firm, has welcomed three strategic hires to its Washington, DC-based architecture and design team in response to continued strength in the region. Together these seasoned professionals bring a combined 50 years of industry experience with expertise across a wide array of project types, from mixed-use and multi-family to workplace and education.

Recent additions to Stantec include:

 

  • Thomas (Ted) Brady: As Senior Project Designer and Business Development Manager, Brady applies his expertise in architectural design, graphic design, and brand positioning to support the growth of Stantec’s Education practice across the DC-metro region. His focus includes collaboration with team leaders on opportunity pursuits and business development efforts, as well as project design support.

    Brady joins Stantec with nearly 15 years of experience in architectural design for a diverse range of projects, including education, cultural, commercial, mixed-use and multi-family. Key experience includes work on Duke University’s Eye Clinic and Research Facility, West Virginia University’s New Agricultural Sciences Building, the Wasserstein Hall Student Center at Harvard Law School, The Wilson School in Arlington, VA, and George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.

    A proven leader of strategic business development efforts, Brady has also helped advance strategic growth for architecture firms in DC and New York City. Most recently, he served as a Project Designer/Marketing Manager focused on the education market sector for an international planning, architecture, engineering, and design firm.

    Brady received his undergraduate degree in Architecture from Columbia University and his master’s degree from the Yale School of Architecture. He also holds degrees from the North Carolina School of the Arts and Boston Conservatory of Music.

 

  • Brad King, AIA LEED GA: King joins Stantec as a Principal in the Commercial practice, with more than 20 years of experience leading commercial design projects in the region. In this role, he is focused on supporting the continued growth of Stantec’s DC-based Commercial practice while ensuring project success through design excellence and innovation.

    Prior to joining Stantec, King was the regional director of the Commercial Office Buildings practice in Washington, DC for a leading integrated architecture, design, planning and consulting firm. During this time, he helped formulate corporate office trends, analyze factors impacting workplace both in the region and internationally, develop new building technology, and pursue business development leads.

Key projects in King’s design portfolio include The Boro, a mixed-use office/residential project in Tysons Corner; Marymount University’s mixed-use development in Ballston; Boeing’s corporate office building in Crystal City; The Avidian, a multi-family residential development in Washington, DC’s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood; and a 96-acre marketing and sales training complex for a pharmaceutical company in Princeton, New Jersey.  

King graduated from The Savannah College of Art and Design with a master’s degree in Architecture. He is active in the AIA-DC Chapter’s Design Excellence Committee and a passionate industry advocate, recently participating in critiques at both Catholic and Maryland Universities.  

 

  • Francisco Waltersdorfer: Waltersdorfer joins as a Senior Associate supporting the advancement of Stantec’s work in the Commercial and Mixed-Use sectors. In this position, he is focused on leading the strategic vision and design for a variety of projects, from concept to execution. In addition to close coordination with clients and project stakeholders, Waltersdorfer will support the team’s business development efforts in the region.

    Waltersdorfer comes to Stantec after most recently serving as project director at an internationally acclaimed architectural design firm in New York City. Notable design, planning and procurement work throughout his nearly 15-year career includes leading the tallest mixed-used development on Canada’s West Coast, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center renovation in Washington, DC, the initial implementation phases of the RFK Armory Masterplan in Washington DC, and Reforma 432, set to be the tallest office tower in Mexico City. 

    Waltersdorfer holds master’s degrees in Architecture from Yale University and Florida International University.
