Stateline, NV  – Professional infrastructure and environmental services firm Cardno has been recognized with a 2017 Best in Basin Award by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). The project teams received the awards at the TRPA’s Governing Board Meeting in Kings Beach, CA, USA, on October 24, 2018.

The award recognizes the work Cardno performed on the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement project (CCIP) in Placer County, CA, USA. Staff assisted the county, as a sub-consultant to Dokken Engineering, in overhauling 1 mile of State Route 28 in Kings Beach, CA, including support of road improvements in neighborhoods adjacent to the project. The project installed bike lanes, sidewalks, landscaping, and installed infrastructure to address drainage and treat stormwater that harmed Lake Tahoe’s clarity.

Cardno designed and performed modelling on the entire stormwater and drainage systems for the three phases of the project. The team’s hydrologic and hydraulic model helped to confirm the effectiveness of separating dirty water from clean water throughout the CCIP.

“This was an important highway project for the community and the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Cardno Principal / Senior Consulting Engineer Stephen Peck. “Our team is proud of the high-quality work we performed for the client to make a difference for residents of the community.”

The annual Best in Basin Awards program recognizes projects around Lake Tahoe that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities. Cardno has been honoured with 13 Best in Basin Awards over the past 14 years. For more information on the TRPA Best-in-Basin awards and program, please visit TRPA’s website
