Mircom Receives the 2018 Toronto Technology Award from IEEE
TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2018 – The Mircom Group of Companies is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the IEEE Toronto Chapter’s “2018 Toronto Technology Award.” Chapter President Mr. Olivier Trescases and IEEE Canada President Ms. Maike Luiken made the presentation to Mircom CTO Jason Falbo. The award recognizes an innovative company in the Toronto region for an outstanding technology developed by a private-sector company. The company and technology are judged on the basis technical innovation, and additionally on the potential for social benefits, such as improved quality of life, a positive environmental impact, and job creation.
Mircom’ s application touched on our complete portfolio of smart building solutions, with a focus on our 400-series LED notification appliances. The revolutionary 400-series product family provides economic, societal, and technological benefits. The 400 series devices are the first of their kind to be designed and manufactured in Canada. They allow for more affordable life safety system adoption through increased market competition. The energy efficient design reduces the environmental impact of the solution providing sustainable people and property protection for years to come. The production floor work cell developed, which is capable of producing over one thousand devices daily, has added additional jobs to Ontario’s manufacturing industry, building on Mircom’s long-standing commitment to support the local economy.
IEEE (https://www.ieee.org/) is the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology with over 400,000 global members, 4100+ of which are registered to the Toronto chapter. The Annual General Meeting was headlined by Mr. Jim Balsillie, founder and former CEO of Blackberry/Research in Motion. The award to Mircom was presented by MPP for Malton/Mississauga Mr. Deepak Anand.
