Stantec’s Resa Furey Recognized as One of 2018’s Top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining

Stantec’s Resa Furey, Marketing & BD Manager, Global Mining, has been recognized as one of 100 inspiring women in the global mining industry. The honor recognizes industry leadership and advocacy. Furey was recognized or her achievements at a ceremony held at the Landsdowne Club on November 15th in London. 

The 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining award is presented every two years by Women in Mining (UK). This year the organization received 642 nominations from around the world. The award was established recognize inspirational women in the industry who go above and beyond their daily responsibilities.   

“The mining industry needs many different kinds of skills and talents to compete today and in the future,” said Jon Treen, Senior Vice President, Mining at Stantec. “Resa represents the leadership, vision and change that is making the industry and our team stronger.”

Furey oversees the business development and marketing for Stantec’s global mining group, including projects across North and South America, Africa and Australia. To improve diversity and inclusion within the industry she established the International Women in Mining session at the annual Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) conference. She also founded the Diversity and Inclusion award at Canadian Institute of Mining, metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) to recognize exceptional contributions towards improving diversity and inclusion within the mining industry in Canada.

Additionally, Furey sponsored an industry-leading initiative within her local chapter of Women in Mining (WIM) to transform the future of the organization by adopting a new charter to support women’s careers in the mining. Successful implementation inspired efforts to make a similar change at the WIM USA national level. Furey has a Master’s in marketing and communications from the University of Colorado Boulder.

“I am very honored to receive this award. Mining has traditionally been a male-dominated industry. Over time, I have learned that my skills and talents—while very different from those of my co-workers—are equally valuable and even essential to the industry,” said Resa Furey. “This was one of my first lessons in the advantages of diversity.”
