Stantec Awarded Comprehensive Study of Safety Rest Areas in Washington State

Spokane, WA: Stantec—a global engineering, consulting, and construction firm—will lead a statewide evaluation of 33 safety rest areas starting this autumn and continuing for a year. The project will review water and wastewater utilities at most of the rest areas across the state for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

The comprehensive review of safety rest areas will provide a uniform assessment of the condition of each facility, allowing WSDOT to prioritize improvements in legislative requests. Stantec will perform the evaluations from three office locations: Spokane and Bellevue, Wash., and Portland, Ore.

The evaluations include examination of vaults and manholes, well capacity testing, CCTV inspection, septic drain field condition evaluation, and follow-up testing as needed. Stantec has provided similar services at Ryegrass, Selah Creek, and Quincy Valley safety rest areas.

“We are thrilled to continue working with WSDOT to evaluate these important facilities,” said Alan Gay, Stantec’s senior civil engineer and project manager based in Spokane. “Providing the comprehensive review gives the State a common baseline for determining which project improvements to pursue. It helps set the highest priorities. I’m pleased to be working with multiple Stantec offices, giving WSDOT the best possible return on their investment.”

The project is expected to be completed before July 2019.
