YPSILANTI TWP., MI – The Board of the American Center for Mobility (ACM), a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) designated testing and proving ground for automated and connected vehicles, announced that Kirk Steudle will serve as the unpaid interim chief executive officer and president, in addition to his role as the director of the Michigan Department of Transportation. Steudle is not a candidate for the permanent position. The board also expressed their appreciation for the efforts of John Maddox in launching the organization. Steudle will shepherd the organization through transition while a national search is conducted to hire a permanent chief executive.

An industry veteran, Steudle has been with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) since 1987. He has successfully managed MDOT’s $4.7 billion annual budget and is responsible for the construction, maintenance and operation of nearly 10,000 miles of state highways and more than 4,000 state highway bridges.

His impressive resume includes chairing the Transportation Research Board executive committee. He was president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) from 2011 to 2012 and has been a member of the AASHTO Board of Directors since 2006.

Widely respected, Steudle is a national leader in the development of connected vehicle technology, including serving as chair of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America Board of Directors and serving as a member of its Program Advisory Committee to DOT.
