Stantec’s Rhys Coombs Crowned ‘Emerging Professional of the Year’ at the ACE 2018 Consultancy and Engineering Awards

Stantec’s Civil Engineer, Rhys Coombs has won the title of ‘Emerging Professional of the Year’ at the ACE 2018 Consultancy and Engineering Awards.

Rhys, based in the United Kingdom is a Civil Engineer and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology UK with a broad range of technical study and research experience covering hydraulics assessments, hydrological assessments and geospatial and numerical modelling with regards to dams, hydropower, big data and water resources. As a technical specialist on dams and hydropower work, Rhys has a advisory role on aspects such as: spillway and low level outlet design, dam break assessment, operation rule development for turbines, energy yield assessments, and bespoke geospatial (GIS) and numerical modelling needs. He has held numerous and varied roles on new dam construction and remedial works in the UK and internationally.

The London based event was attended by leading professionals from across the infrastructure sector. The judging panel consisted of distinguished representatives from across the industry and chaired by Sir Terry Morgan, Chairman of Crossrail.

Speaking about Rhys the judges said they were impressed with his “cutting-edge innovation in his field of dams and flooding”. They went on to say, “Clear and confident, Rhys epitomises the spirit of the engineer.” He doesn’t just accept things, he challenges them and there is real energy behind the interest. Really passionate and articulate and highly proficient in the digital arena and data use, Rhys has already accomplished a lot for someone who is only seven years post-graduation.”
