Erik Hanson Joins Stantec as Principal to Lead and Grow Healthcare Buildings Practice
San Francisco, California (June 8, 2018) NYSE, TSX:STN: Erik Hanson has joined global architecture, engineering, consulting, and construction firm Stantec as principal, joining the Buildings Group leadership team in the San Francisco office. Hanson will be leading the firm’s pursuit strategies for major healthcare and science and technology clients while also leading the development of strategy behind the growth of Stantec’s healthcare practice across California.
With more than 25 years of experience working across a wide variety of project types including healthcare, corporate, and civic design, Hanson has a robust and diverse project portfolio that includes work for many of the country’s leading healthcare design firms, including: HMC Architects, Leo A Daly, SBA Architects, Tsoi/Kobus and Associates, and TRO/The Ritchie Organization. While at HMC Architects, Hanson opened and led a new regional office in the Phoenix market, spearheading new business generation and delivering multiple ambulatory clinics for Banner Health using an Integrated Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery method.
With a strong background in architectural design, master planning, space programming, and supporting communications, Hanson was a founding principal of oceanUS, a progressive, multi-disciplinary research and computational design firm providing architectural, interior and product design services. He was also a co-director of oceanD, a research-based design network based in Boston, New York and London, publishing and exhibiting work both nationally and internationally.

Hanson holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Architectural Center in Boston, where he subsequently served as a faculty member and thesis advisor. He is an inaugural member of the Urban Land Institute – Healthcare Life Science Council, an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, a corporate member of the Lean Construction Institute, and a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineering. He regularly speaks at national conferences related to computational design.
In his spare time, Hanson is an avid sea-kayaker, having previously served as a kayak instructor in Boston and Maine. He is a talented guitarist and composer.
