Dewberry Conducting Steam Tunnel Repairs on North Carolina State University Campus

Dewberry is conducting steam tunnel repairs located around the Yarborough Heat Plant on North Carolina State University’s (NCSU) campus.

The firm is providing structural and site/civil engineering design services. Work includes repairs of spalls, delaminations, corroded reinforcing steel, exposed reinforcing steel, crack sealing, and reinforcements. Additional repair work includes excavation to replace eight linear feet of tunnel top slab along with site restoration, excavation of 115 linear feet of existing tunnel beneath Yarborough Drive, and full encasement utilizing the existing walls as formwork. Major repair work will allow safe passage of vehicular traffic of all types and sizes over the tunnel.

The repairs will take place on the tunnels located between Nelson Hall and Cox Hall, DH Library and Cox Hall, Alexander Hall and Cox Hall, Yarborough Heat Plant and Cox Hall, Poe Hall and Yarborough Heat plant, and Syme Hall and Yarborough Heat Plant.
