HDR Transportation Group Launches “Experts Talk”: Conversations with Thought Leaders

(OMAHA, Neb.) – HDR has launched “Experts Talk,” a series of conversations featuring technical leaders discussing different aspects of transportation infrastructure design and delivery. Each interview segment will offer insights on new and ongoing trends, unique expertise, emerging technologies and the human side of infrastructure. To kick off the series, leaders from HDR’s bridges and structures program were interviewed on diverse topics influencing the practice today. Conversations published to date include:

  • Manuel Carballo on Bridge Design Innovation. He discusses the 2nd Avenue Bridge replacement project in Detroit as an example of thinking beyond traditional methods.
  • Tammy Heffron on Innovation Through Collaboration. She discusses the Platte Avenue over Sand Creek Bridge Replacement project in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as an example of successful collaboration.
  • Robert Allen on Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM). He explains the advantages and the uses of BrIM, including how it supported decisions during construction of the Gov. Mario M Cuomo Bridge in New York.

“Our experts typically focus more on doing their work instead of talking about it, so we’re very pleased to recognize their extensive knowledge and commitment to improve outcomes,” said Brent Felker, HDR’s transportation group president. “We’re very proud of what our teams accomplish. Our recent Grand Conceptor win from the American Council of Engineering Companies for the Raising the Bayonne Bridge Milestone 1 project is just one example of the innovative work our teams perform every day.”

The next scheduled interview will be published on May 23, with Nick Burdette discussing accelerated bridge construction. Other upcoming topics in the series include using alternative concepts to save money, how to monitor structural health, and using technical innovation to preserve America’s iconic bridges and help them be more resilient.
