The Intelligent Transportation Society of America said its board elected new members, including some current and former heads of state departments of transportation.

The group that is starting new three-year terms includes California DOT Director Laurie Berman, Delaware DOT Secretary Jennifer Cohan, Washington State DOT Secretary Roger Millar and Malcolm Dougherty, a senior vice president at Michael Baker International who was the former Caltrans director.

Welcoming those and other board members was Chairman Carlos Braceras, executive director of the Utah DOT who was elected in December to lead the board for 2018. “We are so pleased to welcome these very talented, diverse and forward-thinking professionals to the ITS America board,” Braceras said of the new members.

Other current board members include Pennsylvania DOT Secretary Leslie Richards and Kevin Biesty, deputy director of the Arizona DOT.

And the group’s CEO, Shailen Bhatt, led the Colorado DOT until late in 2017. He said the board has industry leaders who “will bring creative thinking as we continue our efforts to advance the research and deployment of intelligent transportation technologies to save lives and improve mobility.”
