World Industrial Design Day 2018 Set to Highlight Design’s Impact on Good Health and Well-being

Montreal (Canada) – For World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) on 29 June 2018, the World Design Organization (WDO) invites the global design community to participate in this year’s theme: ‘Design’s impact on good health and well-being’.

This deceptively simple theme speaks to a complex set of factors and conditions that determine the level of quality of life of every human being. In addition to individual characteristics, behaviour and genetic makeup, research has shown that health is influenced by certain socio-economic factors, such as physical recreation, access to nutritious food, living and working conditions, as well as by environmental factors, such as air quality and noise and the design of communities and transportation systems. As a result, the achievement of the SDG for good health is strongly interlinked with other areas related to sustainable development.

Through a series of activities such as panel discussions, workshops, exhibits, networking events and in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3: Good Health and Well-being, WIDD 2018 will explore the many ways design can help improve our physical, social, mental and emotional development.

Leading up to WIDD, members of the global design community are invited to contact [email protected] to promote your events on WDO’s website and social media networks. You can also download the “Ways to Celebrate” guide for ideas to plan an activity.
