WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao today joined Congresswoman Barbara Comstock and representatives from Loudoun County government to announce the awarding of a $25 million Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) discretionary grant to Loudoun County, Virginia for the expansion of Northstar Boulevard.

“This $25 million investment in the Northstar Boulevard project will help grow the local economy, create jobs and make travel easier for Northern Virginians,” said Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The project will construct a new 1.6-mile segment of Northstar Boulevard to complete a 14-mile north-south corridor connecting to U.S. Route 50. The segment will be designed as a controlled access thoroughfare with a 4-lane divided roadway located within a proposed 6-lane right-of-way and includes a 10-foot wide shared-use path and 6-foot wide sidewalks, three signalized intersections, and two new bridges.

“Today is a great day for Loudoun,” said Congresswoman Barbara Comstock. “We know relieving traffic congestion in our rapidly growing community is a top priority.  This grant and the traffic solutions it provides means more positive economic impact for our region, as well as getting Moms and Dads back and forth to work faster.”
