SEAOI at DuPage Area STEM Expo

Parul Dubey on January 30, 2018 - in Announcement, Events

The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) is proud to participate in the DuPage Area STEM Expo on Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm at Illinois Institute of Technology’s Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus, located at 201 East Loop Road, in Wheaton, IL

You are invited to join us for an interactive exploration into science, technology, engineering and math. Over 50 displays, presentations, projects to take home and activities for school age children, grades K-12

SEAOI will have many interactive exhibits available for budding young engineers and their parents, as well as a series of lectures by Larry Novak titled “The Wonderful World of Skyscrapers.”

In these lectures, the wonderful world of skyscrapers will be explored to inspire the next generation to greater heights. Using such structural engineering marvels as the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa, and the Trump Tower Chicago, the fundamental principles supporting such wonders will be revealed. Engineers’ tools of the trade, such as the amazing strength of shapes, materials, wind engineering and resiliency, will be uncovered in this interactive and educational program. A hands-on earthquake shake table will allow select students to construct their own LEGO® Skyscraper and test it to destruction under a simulated earthquake after each lecture. Mr. Novak is the Senior Director of Structural Engineering & Codes for the Portland Cement Association and has more than 30 years of experience as a lead structural engineer on sustainable high-rise, mid-rise and special use structures throughout the world.

The Expo is open to the public and free of charge. For more information about the Expo, please visit the IIT website

The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) was founded in 1965 by practicing structural engineers to advance and advocate excellence in structural engineering and to aid in safeguarding the lives and property of the public. SEAOI’s Mission is to champion excellence for its members in the practice of Structural Engineering. SEAOI contributes to the expansion of the art and science of structural engineering by offering education, outreach and networking opportunities to members and the public living and working in Illinois
