HUDSON, Mass. and TUPELO, Miss. – Heartland Water Technology, Inc. today announced that it has signed a contract with the Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority to install a Heartland Concentrator™ at the Three Rivers Regional Landfill near Pontotoc, MS to treat landfill leachate. Heartland develops innovative technology to solve some of the world’s most challenging waste water problems.

A recent report from UNESCO predicts that wastewater volume will double in volume by the year 2025 (UN Water, 2017). “This increase will place a strain on existing infrastructure and systems,” said Heartland CEO Earl Jones. “Heartland is committed to providing technology to efficiently and cost-effectively treat wastewater streams around the world. Our project with Three Rivers is an example of this type of technology.”

After extensive evaluation, Three Rivers selected the Heartland Concentrator technology for its ability to use waste heat emitted from turbines and engines in a classic cogeneration (combined-heat and power) configuration. At Three Rivers, Heartland will capture and use the thermal energy from Three River’s existing Landfill Gas-to-Energy plant, which provides both significant economic value and a strongly positive environmental impact.

This award comes after extensive competitive evaluations by the Three Rivers team to secure a robust, reliable and cost-effective solution for leachate management.

“Heartland’s technology impressed us on several levels,” said Carl Cadden, Chairman of Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority. “It is rugged, reliable and simple to use. Our evaluation clearly suggests that Heartland’s solution will result in significant cost advantage as compared to alternative leachate solutions.”

The Heartland Concentrator, supported by strong customer references and site visits by the Three Rivers team, provided the demonstrable life-cycle cost advantage the team was looking for.

“The Team from Three Rivers is smart, they know their business, they understand the challenges in treating leachate, and conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive analysis,” added Jones. “We are excited to be their solution provider and to be working with such a great team.”

Heartland and Three Rivers plan for the facility to be operating in the third quarter of 2018.

About Heartland Water Technology

Heartland Water Technology, Inc. (www.heartlandtech.com) develops innovative solutions for treating the world’s most challenging waste waters. Its platform technology, the Heartland Concentrator™, has a proven 10-year track record of successfully treating challenging industrial wastewaters including landfill leachate, Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) scrubber water, Brine and Ash Ponds and O&G Produced Water and Frac water. Moreover, the Heartland Concentrator™ can deliver zero liquid discharge (ZLD) in a single unit operation, with unparalleled reliability, little to no pre-treatment, and at a lower life-cycle cost than traditional evaporation technologies.
