Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Announces 2017 PCI Journal Awards

CHICAGO – September 6, 2017 – The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute’s (PCI’s) Journal Awards Committee has named the winners of the 2017 PCI Journal awards.

This year’s Martin P. Korn Award goes to Amir Botros, Gary Klein, Gregory Lucier, Sami Rizkalla, and Paul Zia for their March–April 2017 paper, “Dapped Ends of Prestressed Concrete Thin-Stemmed Members: Part 1, Experimental Testing and Behavior.” The Martin P. Korn Award (named in honor of the first executive director of PCI) recognizes the paper that offers the greatest contribution to the advancement of precast and prestressed concrete in the area of design and research.

Maher Tadros, Kromel Hanna, Nader Jaber, and Jenna Hansen received the Robert J. Lyman Award for the March-April 2017 article “Transversely Posttensioned, Pretopped Box-Slab System for Precast Concrete Parking Structures.” The Robert J. Lyman Award goes to the paper that offers the greatest contribution in the area of plant production, site erection, or general construction using precast and prestressed concrete.

“UHPC: A Game-Changing Material for PCI Bridge Producers” in the March-April 2017 issue won the 2017 Charles C. Zollman Award. J.P. Binard received the award, which goes to the best state-of-the-art precast and prestressed concrete paper.

The 2017 George D. Nasser Award recognizes authors 40 years of age or younger who write outstanding papers on design, research, production, or construction. This year’s award went to Amir Botros, Blake Andrews, and Kurt Holloway for the article that was co-authored with Gary Klein and titled,“Dapped Ends of Prestressed Concrete Thin-Stemmed Members: Part 2, Design,” in the March-April 2017 issue.

The awards will be presented at the 2017 PCI Fall Committee Days and Membership Conference in Rosemont, Ill., at the Member Luncheon on Friday, October 6, 2017.
