(Chicago, IL) – You’re invited to join in celebrating the structural steel industry’s ninth annual SteelDay on September 15! Hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and its members and partners, SteelDay offers the opportunity for AEC professionals, students and others to gain insight into the work, experience and accomplishments of the U.S. structural steel industry at events occurring all over the country. In addition, AISC is hosting free lunchtime webinars tailored to engineers and architects.

“SteelDay is a unique event for the design and construction industry,” commented John Cross, AISC vice president of special projects. “It’s a fun day when we celebrate the structural steel industry and provide some great insight into the value and expertise that a structural steel fabricator can contribute to a building or bridge project when involved early as member of the project team.”

Fabricators and other structural steel facilities will open their doors for tours, demonstrations, seminars and other activities. Guests will learn about the industry’s latest technologies, ranging from improvements in the properties of steel to better equipment and new communication and design tools, and network with people advancing the design and construction industry.

“Experiencing the steel process from beginning to end is very helpful for anyone that works or designs with steel,” said attendee Richard Lussier with Jacobs Engineering, Dallas.

Engineers will also benefit from joining the webinar, “Designing in Structural Steel: 2017,” which highlights recent changes to the AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, the AISC Code of Standard Practice and the new 15th Edition AISC Steel Construction Manual. Presented by Larry Kruth, AISC’s vice president of engineering and research, this webinar will be offered twice on SteelDay (at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. ET) and provide 1 hour of continuing education credit. Additionally, webinar attendees in the U.S. will have the opportunity to take advantage of the SteelDay Manual special and receive a free copy of the 2nd edition AISC Seismic Design Manual when purchasing the 15th edition AISC Steel Construction Manual, as well as free shipping for both manuals.

In a special webinar for architects, “Choosing the Right Framework for Sustainable and Resilient Structures,” a distinguished panel of industry experts from legal, structural engineering and architectural perspectives will discuss the valuable role of the AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges in the design and construction industry, and why it is important for a project architect to understand its content. This webinar is eligible for 1 hour of AIA credit and will be offered at 1 p.m. ET on SteelDay. Participants will also receive a free PDF of the 2016 Code, which includes a new section on architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS).
