Walnut Creek, CA. NYSE, TSX:STN: Stantec’s Dr. Nick Johnson recently received an Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award from the Engineers’ Council, a nationwide organization with strong roots in the aerospace industry.

Johnson, a principal hydrogeologist based in Walnut Creek, was nominated for the award by The Boeing Company for his work on the former Santa Susana Field Laboratory site in Ventura County, California. The award was presented for Johnson’s outstanding technical approach and flawless execution rooted in quality, exemplary focus and consensus-building skills in order to meet both client and state expectations. Johnson provided a comprehensive analysis of the hydrogeology of the Santa Susana site, using data from independent university studies and decades of groundwater monitoring and testing to evaluate the influence of geologic faults on contaminant transport.

The Santa Susana site is a 2,850-acre site with ties to virtually every major US space program, from the first manned Mercury flights to the Apollo moon landings and the Space Shuttle fleet. The site was also used for energy research experiments, including nuclear, solar, and sodium technology. Boeing acquired the site in 1996 and since then has made significant progress with cleanup and restoration. The company has preserved nearly 2,400 acres of permanent open space habitat.

“This award truly shows the value of Nick’s work to the client, state agencies, and the greater community,” said Dixie Hambrick, Stantec vice president. “Boeing nominated Nick for this award, which is a true honor and an acknowledgement of his contributions to Boeing’s ongoing efforts at Santa Susana.”
