Broomfield, CO – Renewable Energy Systems (RES), a leader in the development, construction, and operations of wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage projects in the Americas, is pleased to announce the sale of assets of IdentiFlight, LLC, a subsidiary of RES, to IdentiFlight International, LLC. IdentiFlight International, LLC is jointly owned by Boulder Imaging, a Colorado-based expert in machine vision solutions, and certain private investors affiliated with the company.

The IdentiFlight® avian detection system, is a fully automated aerial detection technology developed in collaboration with Boulder Imaging. The system aims to reduce the wildlife impacts of wind energy with particular emphasis on the protection of in-flight species, such as bald and golden eagles. RES began its investment in developing eagle detection technology after recognizing the need for it and finding none available in the market. RES has sold the exclusive marketing rights along with any other intellectual property in relation to IdentiFlight® to IdentiFlight International.

Paul Walker, Chief Financial Officer of RES in the Americas, adds “The IdentiFlight® detection system adds an excellent chapter to RES’ ongoing story of innovation in technology, service and products for the renewable energy industry. With IdentiFlight’s successful debut in 2016, the partnership with Boulder Imaging has reached the critical milestone where diverse stakeholders in utilities, wind farm operators, biologists and government regulators can capitalize on the best technology available to protect eagles. RES is confident that IdentiFlight International, LLC will maximize the positive impact that we know IdentiFlight® is uniquely capable of providing.”

As wind energy development continues, IdentiFlight® technology will help in addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the industry – avian impacts. IdentiFlight’s use of cameras to detect flight near wind turbine sites and its ability to initiate shutdown of those specific turbines, greatly reduces aviation mortality rates and helps better estimate potential eagle deaths at future project locations. IdentiFlight® will help maximize energy production while minimizing wildlife impacts.

“We have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with RES for over five years and are very proud of our latest machine vision innovation with IdentiFlight®,” said Carlos Jorquera, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Boulder Imaging.  “Boulder Imaging shares RES’ passion to protect wildlife and ensure nature and wind energy can coexist.  With third party testing and validation now complete, we are thrilled to assume the leadership and ownership of this product at such a critical stage.”
