PASADENA, CA  – Parsons is pleased to announce that it is the winner of two National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Fiscal Year 2016 Small Business Industry Awards. Parsons was named Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year for the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, for the second consecutive year. It also received the Mentor-Protégé Agreement of the Year Award for the Goddard Space Flight Center. Selection for both awards was based on Parsons’ support of small businesses under its Facility Construction, Engineering, and Technical Services (FaCETS) contract at Goddard and the strength of its overall small business program.

“Parsons is grateful to NASA for its continued recognition of our small business program,” stated Carey Smith, Parsons Group President. “We have a longstanding commitment to small businesses and will continue to provide opportunities for their growth and development that exceed federal standards.”

Since the start of its FaCETS II contract in 2011, Parsons has maximized opportunities for small businesses and has employed nearly 50 small businesses. These include East-West Printing, a woman-owned HUBZone small business construction material supplier from Davis, WV, and the service-disabled veteran-owned small business abatement company Barco Enterprises, based in Whitemarsh, MD. Parsons is engaged in the NASA Mentor-Protégé Program to promote the 3D design, safety, engineering processes, and business and proposal development capabilities of one of our small business partners. Small business enterprises have completed highly technical projects impacting a variety of NASA missions. For example, they have provided engineering designs, clean room systems, asbestos abatement, METASYS controls, and underground utilities and have supported the James Webb Space Telescope and the Magnetospheric Multiscale missions.

Parsons consistently surpasses the federal standards for small business contracting. In June 2016, it received an award from the National Veteran Small Business Coalition for its subcontracting support to veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses in 2015.

This record of achievement is the result of Parsons’ small business program, which holds an “Outstanding” rating by the Defense Contract Management Agency. Through this program, the company conducts outreach to identify qualified small businesses to support its federal contracts. Parsons not only awards work to these enterprises but supports the companies on its team to improve their processes through training and mentoring. Parsons has established mentor-protégé relationships within the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the Small Business Administration programs, in addition to the NASA program. These programs are designed to promote growth and build sustainable relationships with small firms, with the goal of improving their ability to compete for significant work in the marketplace.
