“This is a technically complex project being delivered in a design-build environment,” said Kuan Go, PE, SE, HNTB project manager. “Kiewit and the HNTB team safely and efficiently completed this challenging project on time for owner Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation. The Roads & Bridges recognition further validates the team’s cohesion and dedication.”
The design-build project includes installing cast-in-place and precast guideway sections, rail elements, intelligent transportation systems and pavement restoration. Sustainability is important to HNTB’s design, with the maintenance and train storage facility approved for LEED ® Silver certification.
“As a significant new transportation option for residents of O’ahu, environmental impact mitigation on the project is crucial,” said Tim Cobb, PE, HNTB project director. “This well-deserved recognition testifies to the project team, which has closely collaborated to ensure sustainability, safety and efficient delivery.”
