DENVER- CH2M has been named a leader in the environmental services market by Verdantix, an independent research firm. The Green Quadrant Environmental Benchmark Survey is based on a four-month study of the fifteen largest US environmental services providers, covering 103 assessment criteria including expertise, differentiators, client base and organizational strength.

The Green Quadrant Environmental Services report stated, “We believe CH2M should be on shortlists by buyers who want a full-service environmental firm and have an inclination to sustainable solutions, as well as for those who value a strong reputation.” The annual report provides buyers of consulting services a guide to the breadth and depth of capabilities of leading U.S. environmental services firms.

CH2M achieved the highest scores in the top environmental markets of water and natural resources management, including green infrastructure. The survey’s best-in-class Capability and Momentum scoring categories for environmental service providers rated CH2M in the top three for:

Remediation Environmental management and optimization Waste management Climate change and resiliency Corporate sustainability Health, safety and sustainability performance Strategy and execution Organizational resources Industry penetration Customer panel perception

“The $14.6B U.S. market for environmental services is dominated by large multi-disciplinary engineering services firms,” said Trevor Bronson, Verdantix industry analyst and report author. “The major growth segments are climate change resilience and technology enablement of environmental management.”

CH2M’s top rating for water management demonstrates its breadth and depth in industrial wastewater, drinking water, resource management and overall water solutions for oil and gas and industrial clients. Its development of a biological process to treat selenium, maintaining an applied sciences lab for bench and pilot testing, and having top experts on staff were noted as key differentiators.

CH2M received high scores for natural resource environment management because of its work with the World Environment Business Council for Sustainable Development in developing an evidence-based online business guide and tool (NI4Biz.org) that shows how to invest in natural infrastructure and cost-efficient solutions with compelling benefits for society and the environment.

CH2M also ranked high in utilizing information management to improve environmental performance because of its strategic approach, sector penetration and partnerships with third-party software providers. The report cited CH2M’s compliance-focused environmental management system for Patriot Coal, which helped reduce storm water violations 80% in less than nine months. In addition, CH2M recently received the 2016 Enablon Outstanding Partner of the Year for environment, health and safety information management.

Noting that planning, permitting and compliance is the most used service line in the environmental marketplace, CH2M was cited for its work for Southern California Edison’s 173-mile electrical transmission line under the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act. CH2M was also recognized for collaborative agreements with The Nature Conservancy and the Wildlife Habitat Council to execute green infrastructure projects that address climate risk, water security, remediation and redevelopment and urban conservation.

Matthew Sutton, President of CH2M’s Environment and Nuclear business, expressed gratitude for Verdantix’s acknowledgment of the firm.  “To be so well perceived for our reputation and capabilities by our clients and industry, and known for sustainable solutions, is further verification of environmental leadership.”
