Professional infrastructure and environmental services firm Cardno has been recognized with three 2015 Best in Basin Awards by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). The company’s project teams received the awards at the TRPA’s Governing Board Meeting in Kings Beach, CA, on Sept. 28.

“The Best in Basin Awards really validate some of the work our teams are doing on projects in the basin,” said Stephen Peck, Cardno’s senior consulting engineer. “I’m very proud of the work and guidance we’re providing that are making a difference in this region.”

The annual Best in Basin Awards program recognizes the best designed, planned, and implemented projects in the Tahoe Basin that also stand out as environmentally compatible. Cardno has been honored with ten Best in Basin Awards over the last 14 years.

The three Best in Basin awards include:

Incline Creek Restoration, SR 28 Culvert Outfall
The project improved fish passage and enhanced channel bed and bank stability on Incline Creek at cross culvert(s) with Nevada State Route 28 (SR28). Cardno planned, designed and permitted the project, helping provide overall improvements designed to improve riparian habitat and reduce peak runoff bank erosion.

Middle Rosewood Creek Area A SEZ Restoration Project
The project restored approximately 2,200 linear feet of degraded and incised stream channels. Cardno assisted the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District in securing grants from multiple sources and adjusting project design and bidding options to meet funder changes and private landowner agreement needs. Cardno further provided complete planning and design for the project.

Lower Chipmunk and Outfall Water Quality Improvement
The project consisted of constructing storm water collection, conveyance and treatment systems, and the complete reconstruction of the roadways within the project area. Cardno provided complete planning, design, permitting, and grant management for the project and assisted Placer County in the construction bidding.
