Bechtel today announced that for the second year in a row, one of its in-house leadership and development programs was awarded a gold medal by Chief Learning Officer (CLO) magazine in the Business Partnership Award category. The CLO awards recognize companies that demonstrate the highest excellence in designing and delivering employee development programs.
Bechtel, one of the world’s leading engineering and construction companies, won the award for the ‘Building Strong Relationships,’ a course designed to improve relationship-building skills with teams and customers, help shape service mindsets, as well as strengthen leadership behaviors. The course has resulted in improved customer collaboration, project performance, safety, profitability, and contract awards, and has been taken by more than 1,800 Bechtel colleagues.
“Partnering with the business to develop a game-changing learning program that provides valuable skills to our employees, partners and customers, and essentially adding to the bottom line, is the ultimate goal of an organization’s learning and development team,” said Lucy Dinwiddie, Bechtel’s chief learning officer. “To be honored with an award as significant as the CLO, demonstrates the collaboration and innovation of the Bechtel team and the commitment to our colleagues across the globe.”
Dana Lum, Bechtel global employee finances manager and participant of Building Strong Relationships added, “Our business is all about relationships – both inside and out of Bechtel. After completing this course, my team and I are now equipped with tools and knowledge to navigate interactions that help preserve and strengthen colleague and customer connections.”
Bechtel provides its learning and development programs through Bechtel University which provides more than 1,000 instructor-led and online courses for company colleagues. In support of the company’s vision to achieve optimal results for customers while building satisfying careers, Bechtel colleagues take courses on a variety of subjects including engineering, procurement, construction, ethics, diversity, project management, leadership, safety, quality, and business services. In addition, Bechtel colleagues also have the opportunities to take language and cultural awareness courses. Through the in-house learning and development programs, Bechtel University is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education & Training.
