The $70m+ project will deliver two new gates, Gates 73 and 74, to increase the capacity of the terminal to suit bigger aircraft including the Airbus A380.The scope – currently in planning phase – includes four aerobridges, upgrades and enhancements in the operating terminal and a range of airside works which will be planned and delivered using Laing O’Rourke’s industry-leading Digital Engineering approach.
Laing O’Rourke Region Director Pat Cashin said the company was delighted to again be partnering with Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) on such a significant upgrade for the precinct and the travelling public.
“While preparatory works have been underway for a number of weeks, this week’s official contract signing with BAC gets the planning phase formally underway,” Mr Cashin said.
“We have a proud history of supporting Brisbane Airport’s domestic and international terminals – including most recently the Domestic Terminal Access Project, connecting the car park and Airtrain to the main buildings, as well as a range of services across the wider precinct such as the Q-Catering base for QANTAS.”
The airport works add to a significant aviation-related portfolio for Laing O’Rourke in 2016. Laing O’Rourke is currently delivering two major projects for the Department of Defence including the Battlefield Airlifter upgrades at Amberley RAAF Base, and the AIR 5428 Pilot Training Systems Facilities work in multiple states.
“This contract builds on our 30-plus years of aviation delivery experience, and means we will be concurrently delivering aviation infrastructure in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria,” Mr Cashin added.
