Ramboll Wins San Francisco Planning Frameworks
To date, San Francisco has been spared when it comes to cloudbursts or sea level rise. But the City and County of San Francisco Planning Department know that the risk is there. That is a major reason the Californian metropolis have appointed Ramboll on three major frameworks for planning services.
The frameworks are broad and cover among other things Strategic Planning, Resiliency Planning and Sustainability Planning. The San Francisco Planning Department explains about Sustainability Planning:
“Local topography, including lengthy ocean, Bay coastlines and dense urban development patterns is a challenge when dealing with more intense rain events and higher tides from rising sea levels. Ultimately, the existing capacity of the city’s aging sewage systems will be increasingly strained and force the implementation of further climate adaptation interventions”.
Exciting breakthrough
The framework win represent an important milestone in Ramboll’s strategic focus on developing urban planning services in the US and build on previous successes such as the climate adaptation study in New York City won earlier this year.
Principal at Ramboll Michael Keinath, who has led the qualification process, remarks:

It is a true ‘one company’ effort that demonstrates what we can achieve when we offer clients the full breadth of our expertise.”
Herbert Dreiseitl, Director of LCL, adds:
“We had already been in talks with the local water utility about a potential project, and with the frameworks now in place it will be even more straightforward to access clients and pursue leads. In particular, we see great potential opportunities in the fields of climate adaptation, urban stormwater management and stream restoration, pedestrian and bicycle masterplans.”
Ramboll will also act as sub-consultant to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) – one of the largest and most influential architecture, interior design, engineering, and urban planning firms in the world – on San Francisco’s Urban Design framework.
