KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 27, 2016 – HNTB Corporation earned four National Steel Bridge Alliance awards for its expertise on various bridge projects across the country. The firm was presented with the awards at the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials 2016 Bridges and Structures Annual Meeting, held in Minneapolis during June 26-30.

HNTB’s winning work includes:

• South Park Bascule Bridge in Seattle: First place in the moveable span category. HNTB designed the lift bridge to sustain minimal damage and remain operational after a 100-year seismic event. The new bridge restores a vital link in the South Park community of Seattle, which was suffering from the closure of the previous bridge.
• Portsmouth Memorial Bridge between New Hampshire and Maine: Merit Award in the moveable span category. As part of a design-build team, HNTB designed the bridge’s rapid replacement over the Piscataqua River. The new lift-span was constructed offsite and floated into place, and echoes the look of its predecessor.
• Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge in St. Louis: Merit Award in the major span category. HNTB served as lead designer for the bridge and its approach spans. HNTB produced the iconic design in only 11 months.
• Falls Flyover Ramp in Wichita, Kansas: Merit award in the medium span category. HNTB designed an innovative aesthetic concept for two flyover bridges that was approved by the Wichita Design Council. These bridges provide important traffic congestion relief while also serving as a source of critical flood protection for the community.

“These awards not only honor HNTB, but recognize the project owners—our clients—who are continually challenged to deliver innovative infrastructure projects,” said Chris Price, PE, HNTB national bridge practice leader and senior vice president. “Our clients’ vision, combined with hard work and dedication by HNTB and its partners, made these community-connecting projects possible. This national recognition is tangible proof of that.”

HNTB is committed to the bridge industry and participated as a premier sponsor of the AASHTO 2016 Bridges and Structures Annual Meeting in Minneapolis.

HNTB was founded on bridge design and continues its deep roots in bridge design, delivery, construction and program management, having served on some of the most high-profile bridge projects in the United States. The firm’s renowned project portfolio includes final design and engineer of record services for the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge in Boston, construction engineering for the Huey P. Long Widening Bridge Project in New Orleans and the design of the Lake Champlain Bridge Replacement between New York and Vermont.
