Water Resources Expert Michael Sears Joins HNTB
NEW YORK, June 21, 2016—Michael Sears, PE, joined HNTB Corporation as senior project manager and associate vice president. Sears is based in the firm’s New York City office.

At HNTB, Sears works with the firm’s transit and transportation agency clients and leads efforts to expand the water resources and environmental practice throughout the Northeast region.
Prior to HNTB, Sears held senior-level water resources engineering positions with the U.S. Geological Survey and other engineering firms, and worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Metro-North Railroad, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, New Jersey Department of Transportation and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority among others.
With more than 25 years of experience, Sears is a professional engineer in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with Bachelors of Science degrees in mechanical engineering and metallurgy, and is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers where he currently serves as the president of the North Jersey branch, and the New Jersey Association of Floodplain Management.
In the New York and New Jersey region, HNTB serves as construction manager for the renewal and rehabilitation of New York City Transit’s Sea Beach line, program management for New Jersey Transit in the implementation of positive train control technology, owner’s engineer for the New NY (aka Tappan Zee) Bridge, and the general engineering consultant for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority among other significant infrastructure programs.
