June 8, 2016—HDR has been selected as the owner’s engineer for Kinder Morgan’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project at Elba Island near Savannah, Georgia. The project is currently in the engineering, procurement and construction phase.

The Elba liquefaction project will include installation of 10 liquefaction units for an output capacity of approximately 2.5 million tons per year of LNG, and modifications to the existing Elba Terminal to allow for export. The project will use Shell’s innovative small-scale liquefaction units, which will be integrated into the existing Elba Terminal and enable rapid construction compared to traditional large-scale plants.

About HDR’s LNG Experience

With more than 40 years of experience engineering and designing LNG facilities, we’ve been at the helm of pioneering industry solutions. Our teams were involved with the first LNG peak shavers in the late 70’s, the reactivation of Cove Point and Elba Island in the early 2000s, and even helped lead the development of emerging solutions for FLNG and FSRU. Most recently our work includes ultra-efficient modular design for today’s low-cost LNG developments and reimagining traditional facilities to address new market demands like LNG as a transport fuel for the marine, rail and trucking industries.
