Dewberry has been awarded an environmental services contract to monitor gas and groundwater on Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s (Salem VAMC) closed landfill site in Salem, Virginia. The firm will monitor gas and groundwater wells, facility buildings, and storm drain manholes on a quarterly basis and submit reports in accordance with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulatory requirements.

Dewberry has developed environmentally conscious solid waste solutions and groundwater monitoring plans for Salem VAMC for nearly 25 years. Since helping close the landfill in 1991, the firm has installed groundwater systems, gas wells, gas vents, and gas probes; developed and revised gas remediation plans; and designed grading to support a solar field installation. Dewberry’s history with the project site also includes groundwater monitoring, well installation designs, management plans, and amendments and extension request permitting
