SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Kleinfelder is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Nathan Johnson to Vice President and Transportation Market Bridge Segment Manager. Currently the Service Line Director for Bridge Engineering, Nathan brings nearly two decades of experience to the role, focusing on delivery of structures-led highway, rail, and transit projects, as well as bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and seismic design.

In his new position, Johnson will continue to direct the bridge service line and be responsible for establishing the national transportation bridge strategy, fostering national and regional client relationships, and advancing Kleinfelder’s transportation design services to serve client needs.

“A particularly valuable offering at Kleinfelder is the combination of our outstanding bridge design services with our intimate understanding of local geotechnical conditions across the nation,” states Johnson. “Combined, we have developed a unique integrated approach to structure-centered design where we can improve efficiency and appropriateness of construction documents. Rather than a geographically and professionally divided approach, often typical in the AEC industry, Kleinfelder’s integrated approach can reduce what are often the highest costs and risks to transportation project owners and contractors.”

According to Richard Wells, Transportation Market Manager and Senior Vice President at Kleinfelder, “Demand for transportation design services for existing and new structures is increasing across the nation at a rapid pace. Kleinfelder’s bridge design services add a competitive advantage with greater value and lower risk for many of our strategic clients and teaming partners—particularly when paired with other Kleinfelder services.”

“Our integrated performance-based design above and below ground recently saved an 80-year-old coastal bridge from earthquakes and old age,” adds Johnson. The project was built well under budget and received several awards, including the No. 4 spot on Roads & Bridges’s List of Top 10 Bridges of 2014 and the 2015 Best Rehabilitated Bridge award from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.

Kleinfelder’s bridge engineering services are available to clients nationwide, from California to Maine. Major offerings include turnkey structure-led project delivery, addressing the federal highway bridge program, and integrated geo-structural design.
