Terracon Foundation Presents $50,000 Grant to Society of Women Engineers
OLATHE, Kan.—The Terracon Foundation presented a $50,000 National Partner grant to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The grant funds will be used to support SWE’s Collegiate Leadership Program.
The check was presented by Catherine Rocky, P.G., EIT, CPSM and national account manager at Terracon and a member of SWE.
SWE is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders. The Collegiate Leadership Program prepares female engineering students to become leaders in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Terracon’s grant funds will be used to host webinars during the 2015-2016 academic year, provide for 75 students to attend the Collegiate Leadership Institute in October 2016, and support the Leadership Coaching Committee.
“It was an honor to present this $50,000 grant to SWE,” Rocky said. “This is an organization dedicated to the education, support and advocacy of women who choose a career in the fields of STEM. I am proud to be a part of SWE, and equally proud to work for a company that supports organizations its employees are passionate about through its foundation.”
Cindy Hoover, SWE treasurer for national board of directors, accepted the grant funds on behalf of the organization. “This generous donation will have a major impact on SWE’s ability to continue our Collegiate Leadership Forum,” Hoover said. “It will also support further collegiate work over the next year.”
Rocky first joined SWE in college and then became a professional member after graduation. She has served as vice president of the SWE Wichita, Kan., section and as a representative to the Wichita Council of Engineering Societies. For the last two years Rocky has been a member of the SWE Magazine editorial board.
The Terracon Foundation was established with a goal to reach out and become a real part of the lives of Terracon employees and the communities where they live and work. The Foundation has awarded a National Partner grant for the past four years. To date, the Foundation has granted more than $1 million to community organizations, universities, dependents of employees, and for disaster relief efforts.
