Ware Malcomb Wins National Recognition for Leadership in Commercial Real Estate Design
IRVINE, Calif. Oct. 14, 2015—Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, today announced the firm has been recognized for its national leadership in commercial real estate design by NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, for the fourth consecutive year. This year, Ware Malcomb is the winner of the Niche Development of the Future design competition in the area of medical / medical office design, and will present its concept at NAIOP’s Commercial Real Estate Conference 2015 being held today in Toronto.
Ware Malcomb is the only firm in North America that has been recognized every year since NAIOP’s national design competition was launched in 2012. Ware Malcomb was a winner in the 2014 Interior Design/Build-Out of the Future competition, designed the winning 2013 Distribution/Fulfillment Center of the Future, and won an honorable mention in the 2012 Office Building of the Future design competition.
“It is an honor to once again be recognized by NAIOP as an industry leader in cutting-edge commercial real estate design,” said Lawrence R. Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer of Ware Malcomb. “Over the years we have been recognized for our design concepts in a variety of areas including office buildings, distribution/fulfillment centers, interior office space, and now medical facilities. This breadth of expertise is a testament to our creative and hard-working teams who are constantly envisioning and planning for the future of design on behalf of our clients.”
The competition invited architectural firms and design teams who work with developers and owners to conceptualize and design the products in niche development – primarily senior living and medical office/medical. It also challenged the firms to conceive the opportunities arising from demographic, cultural and political shifts.
Ware Malcomb’s award-winning mixed-use medical campus includes four primary components: the Mind Nexus, Heart Nexus, Spirit Nexus and Body Nexus. The components can be built using a phased approach and can operate autonomously. The concept’s holistic view of health care delivery envisions “more health, less care,” and brings together a variety of high-tech spaces for learning, healing and wellness in a single destination. Space needs will shift as patients receive care remotely through technology and less in dedicated medical facilities. Medical professionals will provide virtual consultations to patients through apps and microclinics/kiosks, and storage needs will change, as sterile case goods like stents and tools as well as custom molds and other products are made on-site as needed with 3-D printers.
Ware Malcomb’s Director, Commercial Architecture and leader of the firm’s Healthcare Design practice Michael Petersen will be presenting Ware Malcomb’s innovative concept at the annual NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Conference being held today in Toronto.
