HNTB Experiences Double-digit Growth in Texas, Responding to the Region’s Growing Infrastructure Needs

AUSTIN, Texas, July 9, 2015—HNTB Corporation, a national infrastructure solutions firm celebrating more than a century of service to clients, is growing in Central and South Texas.  The firm is adding staff across four offices and bringing more senior practice leaders to its team to meet the region’s rapidly growing infrastructure needs.

HNTB’s Central and South Texas offices are located in Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and Harlingen. The number of transportation professionals the firm employs across these four offices has grown by 17 percent since 2010, with the majority of that growth occurring in the last two years. HNTB currently has 185 employees in the region, including professional engineers, environmental scientists, certified planners, professional landscape architects, public involvement representatives, field inspectors, geographic information system analysts, document control specialists and administrative staff.

Within the coming three years, projections for Central and South Texas estimate that the firm will add 65 more transportation infrastructure professionals between mid-2015 and the end of 2018.

Nationally known experts joining the HNTB team in the last two years have included:Mark Hoffa, senior toll project manager and advisor;  Dean Van Landuyt, PE, senior technical advisor for HNTB’s bridge practice; Steve Lowry, PE, senior advisor focusing on innovative delivery across the state; and Steve Novosad, a senior project manager for HNTB’s Intelligent Transportation Systems practice.

Other key staff joining the firm in Central and South Texas include:

  • David Huter, PE, project controls department manager and quality manager on the Mobility35 general engineering consultant team
  • Casey Carlton, department manager with the firm’s Integrated Planning Services group
  • Rafael Riojas, PE,  project manager with extensive design knowledge of complex roadway geometrics
  • Hillary Calavitta, AICP, senior planner with more than a dozen years of project management experience
  • Kelvin Kroeker, PE, El Paso office group director
  • Noemi Rojas, public involvement specialist
  • Merrell Jolley, PE, senior project and support services manager

HNTB was recently named ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2015 Design Firm of the Year for the firm’s 60-year history of continual growth and diversification in the region as well as the broad depth of infrastructure services HNTB provides. HNTB was recognized for multiple recent accomplishments in Texas and Louisiana including the firm’s focus on emerging infrastructure needs, such as disaster recovery and work related to the transportation needs of the energy industry, as well as understanding trends in the transportation market such as Intelligent Transportation Systems and congestion management strategies.

In 2014, HNTB celebrated its 100th anniversary and its origins in the city of Austin, including co-founder Ernest Howard’s role in designing the original Congress Avenue Bridge in 1910. HNTB has had a role in creating and improving some of Central and South Texas’ most important roadways, such as U.S. Highway 183, Ben White, IH-35, 183-A toll road, the Southern Relief Route Study that resulted in the Border Highway West Extension (now Border West Expressway) and El Paso’s I-10 Collector-Distributor Lanes projects.
