ADOT&PF Closing Select Waysides Due to Budget Reductions
FAIRBANKS, Alaska—Due to general fund budget reductions, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) is not opening eight waysides. All eight of the closed waysides are located near other services.
The waysides to be closed are located at:
- Richardson Highway Mile 47.8, commercial services are 8 miles away
- Richardson Highway Mile 110.6, commercial services are 1 mile away
- Richardson Highway Mile 188, services are 2 miles away
- Tok Cutoff Mile 35.1, commercial services are 1 mile away
- Tok Cutoff Mile 43.7, commercial services are 9 miles away, in either direction
- Tok Cutoff Mile 75.3, commercial services are 3 miles away
- Glenn Highway Mile 118.5, commercial services are 5 miles away
- Glenn Highway Mile 152.7, commercial services are across the street
By eliminating the ongoing cost of maintaining the waysides, ADOT&PF will save $82,700 this year. The rest of the ADOT&PF maintained waysides on the Richardson Highway, Tok Cutoff and Glenn Highway will remain open this season.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 249 airports, 11 ferries serving 35 communities, 5,619 miles of highway and 720 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
