ANCHORAGE, June 2, 2015—Coffman Engineers is pleased to announce the following promotions of new corporate leadership: Will Veelman, S.E., to Chairman; Dave Gardner, S.E. to CEO; Dave Ruff, P.E. to President. Company founder Dave Coffman, S.E. moves into a new role as “Founder and Director” of the firm.

Dave Coffman founded Coffman Engineers in 1979 and has served as CEO and Chairman since its inception. Under his leadership the company expanded from a small structural engineering firm based in Bellevue, Washington to a multidiscipline engineering firm of 330 employees and eight office locations around the Pacific Rim. In his new role as Founder and Director, Coffman will remain on the Board of Directors and will provide new management with advice, experience, and coaching. He will also remain closely involved with mergers and acquisition activities.

“While it is not easy for me to step-aside as the CEO and Chairman of Coffman Engineers, a role I’ve held since our inception, it is certainly the right thing to do for the company and for myself. I have always felt, since the beginning and even more so today, that this company is bigger than any one individual. I am confident the company is in exceptionally good hands with the three quality, proven individuals moving into the new corporate leadership positions, and I am excited to support them in my new role during the next several years. The future of Coffman Engineers continues to be very bright,” said Coffman.

Veelman has been with Coffman Engineers for 34 years. He is a Principal in the Anchorage office and works on a variety of commercial and oil and gas projects. He will split his time between Chairman duties and ongoing civil/structural engineering services to Alaska clients.

Gardner joined Coffman Engineers in 1990 and has more than 32 years of experience as a civil/structural engineer, during which time he has largely focused on federal projects in Alaska and throughout the Pacific Rim. Gardner is a Principal and served as the Anchorage office General Manager since 2011. He will continue to act as client manager for federal projects.

Ruff has been with Coffman Engineers for nearly 20 years. He is a mechanical engineer with a largely industrial focus. Ruff is a Principal and served as the Spokane office General Manager from 2007 through 2014. As President, Ruff will focus on the internal operations of the company while continuing to act as client manager for industrial clients.

The new corporate leaders move into their positions following a record year for Coffman Engineers. The company finished 2014 with more than 300 employees and nearly $50 million in revenue. In the last 12 months the company has completed two mergers, added fire protection engineering capabilities, and opened a new office location in Bozeman, Montana.

“It’s a privilege and exciting to have this opportunity to lead this exceptional company of creative, dedicated and talented professionals. We will continue building on the solid foundation and momentum Dave Coffman has brought to Coffman Engineers for 36 years, so that we can offer clients a diversity of services, both in 800 F Street, Anchorage, AK 99501 market sectors and geographic locations. With leadership help from Will Veelman and Dave Ruff, I will continue developing technical services that bring value to our clients,” said Gardner.
