FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 7, 2015—Coastal Risk Consulting, LLC (CRC), helping property owners, businesses, and communities become climate ready and storm safe, has appointed Brian Soden, Ph.D., as Vice President of Science and Technology.  Widely regarded as a leading authority in climate change science and climate modeling, Dr. Soden continues to serve as Professor at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science.

CRC’s online Coastal Risk Rapid Assessment™ and Flood Inundation Risk Score and Table (FIRST Score™) document the risk of flooding at individual properties over a standard 30-year mortgage cycle, helping more than 50 million property owners in U.S. coastal zones become climate ready and storm safe.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Brian to CRC.  His appointment underscores our commitment to seeking outstanding scientific authorities to continue to advance the Company’s proprietary services.  We expect that his deep understanding of and experience with climate systems and climate change research will add tremendous value to our growing franchise,” said Albert J. Slap, CRC’s President.

Dr. Soden said, “With steadily rising sea levels and the prevalence of ‘sunny-day flooding’ already affecting many coastal towns and properties, knowing the risk of flooding of a home or business is priceless information.  I look forward to leveraging CRC’s outstanding science and technology platform as CRC helps property owners, prospective homebuyers, businesses and municipalities make informed decisions regarding inevitable rising water levels, and assists mortgage lenders and insurance companies assess the impact on property values to optimally manage their portfolio assets.”

Dr. Soden’s research focuses on the use of satellite observations to test and improve model projections of future climate change. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Miami and earned his M.S. and Ph.
