Making ÖBB Fit for All Climes: Siemens Trains Tested in Vienna

The new Desiro cityjets for Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) are currently undergoing extensive testing in the world’s largest climatic wind tunnel at Rail Tec Arsenal (RTA) in Vienna, Austria. Capable of mimicking extreme climates that range from tropical heat to Siberian cold, the tunnel puts the weather resistance of these trains to the test in order to ensure reliable and safe travel in all weather conditions.

Mobility is a key factor in modern society. Requirements in this field are correspondingly exacting. Commuter, regional and inter-regional rail links have to be fast, green, punctual, safe and absolutely reliable. And these are attributes the Siemens’ Desiro regional trainsets deliver. The Desiro is dependable: Its availability stands at a demonstrable figure of 99 percent. More than 1400 Desiro vehicles are already in service or on order.
