The pancake collapse of an old overpass that was undergoing demolition killed a construction worker late Monday evening and shut down a stretch of the interstate. The collapse happened around 10:30 p.m. during the demolition of the old Hopple Street overpass.

The collapse killed one construction worker and injured a tractor-trailer driver that was traveling on the roadway below.

The roadway is expected to be closed for a minimum of 48 hours as the investigation progresses and tons of concrete are removed from the road.  The Department of Transportation is assisting in the investigation.
