Sacramento, CA (August 2, 2018) The stories shared by hundreds of local residents with their vision for the future of downtown are coming to life during the 11-day Wide Open Walls mural festival. Inspired by the six-word stories shared with the hashtag #DowntownSacStory on social media, Spanish artist Iker Muro (MurOne) will paint five stories of the parking garage owned by Pac West Office Equities at 555 Capitol Mall. Notably, the Downtown Sac Story mural will be the first of its kind for Capitol Mall buildings.

The campaign to collect Downtown Sac Stories was initiated by one of 555 Capitol Mall’s largest tenants, Stantec, and launched during the 21st annual State of Downtown breakfast in January 2018. During the event, produced by Downtown Sacramento Partnership, attendees were asked to share their vision for the future of downtown Sacramento – in just six words. The campaign continued through June 1, 2018 with digital billboards encouraging Sacramentans to add their story.

“At Stantec, we promise to design with community in mind,” said Alfonso Rodriquez, vice president of the Pacific Region, based in Sacramento. “In this case, the community provided all the input for the design. We are thrilled to see what the artist creates from the community’s vision. And, since the mural is right next to our office on Capitol Mall, we will see it and be inspired by it daily.”

MurOne’s #DowntownSacStory mural will be “an acid mixture of pop culture, illustration and graphic design” inspired by the primary themes from the stories submitted: opportunity; community; creativity and culture; destination development at the waterfront; and, pedestrian/bike friendly transportation.

“Downtown Sacramento’s story is unfolding with every exciting new project and business we’re seeing,” said Michael Ault, executive director of Downtown Sacramento Partnership. “We can’t wait to see it commemorated in this mural. We’re grateful for partners like Stantec, Pac West Office Equities at 555 Capitol Mall and Wide Open Walls, who are creating vibrancy and culture in downtown Sacramento.”

Wide Open Walls runs Aug. 9-19 and is free to the public. More information including a detailed artist roster, mural locations and sponsorship opportunities can be found at: http://wideopenwalls.org/.
