MIAMI (April 30, 2018) — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 6 has hired Woolpert to conduct district-wide aerial photogrammetry and miscellaneous surveying services under a five-year, $1.5 million contract. The contract covers FDOT’s District 6, which encompasses Miami-Dade and Monroe counties in South Florida. The district is home to more than 2.5 million people, and FDOT reports that its roads are traveled more than 30.8 million miles daily.

The firm also was named as a photogrammetry subconsultant on a miscellaneous survey and mapping contract for District 4, which is comprised of Broward, Indian River, Martin, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties in Southeast Florida. That district has 3.6 million residents and it sees vehicles traverse more than 52 million miles daily.

Woolpert reapplied for the District 6 contract as its previous contract with FDOT was nearing an end. The architecture, engineering and geospatial (AEG) firm earned the top ranking among its competitors.

“According to the client’s feedback, our geospatial expertise, quality standards, strong project management, experienced staff, local presence—being less than 3 miles away—and our thorough proposal won us the work,” said Jose Sanfiel, Woolpert project manager. “We’re excited to foster and expand our relationship with FDOT with these most recent projects.”

Woolpert, which was founded in 1911, has four of its 25 offices in Florida and has conducted dozens of mapping and survey projects across the state.

“Florida is the third most populated state and is second in the country in tourism,” Sanfiel said. “Having accurate data such as this is key to the department’s work to ensure safe roads and highways, and we are proud to be able to provide that.”

These contracts are expected to get underway this summer.
