Washington, D.C. – Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) today announced that Committee Staff Director Matt Sturges is leaving the Committee staff to join the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) as the Deputy Administrator.  In addition, Shuster announced the promotions of Chris Vieson to the position of Staff Director for the Committee, and Geoff Gosselin to the position of Deputy Staff Director.

“Matt joined the Transportation and Infrastructure staff when I became Chairman in 2013, and he has been instrumental in the passage of every major piece of Committee legislation over the last three congresses,” Shuster said.  “From the FAST Act and the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act, to the PIPES Act, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act, and more, Matt has served the Members of this Committee with tremendous expertise and skill.  I want to thank Matt for his dedication to the Committee and the House of Representatives, and for his steady hand at the wheel in our work to improve America’s infrastructure.”

Shuster continued, “Chris and Geoff are extremely knowledgeable about both transportation policy and the intricacies of legislating.  They have worked to develop and pass many infrastructure bills, and the Committee can rely on them to help us complete action this year on a long-term FAA reauthorization bill, the next Water Resources Development Act, infrastructure legislation, and other priorities.”

Chris Vieson has served as the Committee’s Deputy Staff Director since December 2016.  Before that, Vieson was a partner for Public Strategies Washington’s government affairs group, Director of Floor Operations for Majority Leader Eric Cantor, floor assistant and policy advisor on appropriations for Republican Whip Roy Blunt, and legislative analyst for House Republican Conference Chairs Deborah Pryce and Adam Putnam.

Geoff Gosselin has served as Senior Professional Staff on the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and Senior Advisor to the Chairman since December 2016.  He has served for over 18 years on and off the Committee, as a staff member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, as well as on the staff of Committee Members in their personal offices.
