Mott MacDonald has appointed Ricardo Tavares as its new general manager for Brazil. Ricardo takes over from Ric Staniforth, who has returned to the UK after leading the consultancy’s Brazilian operations for the last five years.
With over 30 years’ experience of working in Brazil, Ricardo has an extensive track-record of developing and co-ordinating environmental studies and projects in sectors including energy, transportation, industry and urban development. He has also been responsible for recruiting and coaching local staff in the effective delivery of projects.
Ricardo was one of the founders of Brazilian environmental consultancy Habtec Engenharia Ambiental, which was acquired by Mott MacDonald in 2013. Since integrating into the company he has fulfilled the role of operations director.
Commenting on Ricardo’s appointment, Mott MacDonald’s transportation general manager Jol Bates said: “As well as leading our local team and operations in Brazil, Ricardo will be tasked with implementing a business and financial management plan that keeps us on a path of healthy growth. He truly represents our global brand, vision and business value propositions so is a great choice to take over from Ric, who has helped us become recognised in the Brazilian market for the quality of our services and efficiency of our management.”
Mott MacDonald is currently working on projects in Brazil’s energy, transportation, health, education, industry and environment sectors. These include the 800kV Xingu-Rio transmission line that will transfer power from the north west to meet industrial demand in the south east, the regasification of Terminal Gas Sul and the Schools in Rio public-private partnership.
