Pittsburgh (March 21, 2018)Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced that it was recently selected by the Livingston Parish Airport District to design and develop the new Livingston Executive Airport in Livingston, Louisiana. As part of the five-year contract, Michael Baker will provide aviation engineering services for the new general aviation airport that will include a 5,000-foot runway, a flight service station, airplane hangars and a fuel station.

Michael Baker’s work in the development of the greenfield airport, a new airport which is constructed on an undeveloped site, spans the firm’s aviation engineering services, beginning with an environmental assessment of the site’s 242 acres in early 2018. The firm will complete a number of additional task orders as part of the contract, including planning the airport’s layout and updating the master plan, as well as designing the airfield, which includes the runway, taxiway, connector taxiways, aprons, lighting and signage, NAVAIDs, drainage, perimeter fencing, terminal building, parking and access roads.

“The Livingston Executive Airport project will demonstrate the breadth of Michael Baker’s aviation engineering capabilities as we play a significant role in this greenfield airport from project ideation to design to the final construction,” said Michael Hixson, P.E., aviation operations manager in Michael Baker’s Baton Rouge office. “The airport is a testament to the strength of the people of Livingston Parish as they continue to recover from devastating flooding that damaged or destroyed more than 80 percent of the structures in the parish. Michael Baker is proud to demonstrate how We Make a Difference in the communities we serve to help the region recover with an airport to better serve private and corporate clients.”

The Livingston Executive Airport, located on 242 acres that were donated by the Garry Lewis family, will offer an economic boost for the rebuilding Livingston Parish. The project was funded exclusively from investment at the federal and state level, and does not involve taxpayer dollars. Michael Baker worked with Gulf Engineers & Consultants (GEC) to identify the funding sources for the project and will continue to work with GEC on various facets of design throughout the program.

“The airport will serve a tremendous need in our local aviation community.  It also promises to be a valuable economic development resource for our parish,” said Delia Taylor, chairwoman, Livingston Parish Airport District.  “Numerous studies have shown compelling evidence that airport activity provides immediate and long-term economic benefits to the region.”

Following the completion of Michael Baker’s environmental assessment and preliminary design layout for the property, a complete construction timeline will be developed and released by the airport.
