To Become Smart Cities, Process and Strategy are Key

Most cities are executing a smart city strategy purely based on the aggregation of projects without having a clear understanding of where they are or where they are going.

Cities are still not accustomed to thinking like businesses when planning long-term futures. But I would urge them to follow a structured and rigorous approach toward generating a strategy and measuring progress. New York City seems to have this right: Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently released the State of the City 2013 report complete with data indicating NYC’s progress on topics from mobility to education.
