CHICAGO  – Tim Faerber, PE, HNTB senior vice president, was named to the Advisory Council of the Architecture Construction Engineering Mentor Program of America, a national organization dedicated to mentoring high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in the design and construction industry.

“It is an honor to be named to the Advisory Council and serve alongside so many prestigious colleagues from across the country,” said Faerber. “Promoting interest in the fields of architecture, construction and engineering is one of the most important roles that we play as practicing professionals. I look forward to supporting the mission of ACE and helping to recruit the next generation of talent to our industry.”

HNTB is actively involved in a variety of programs across the country to promote careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

In April 2017, HNTB helped mentor a team of 13 Chicago high school students who placed first in the Construction Industry Round Table/ACE National Design and Construction competition.

In 2015, HNTB’s Chicago office began the SPARK program which is part of a larger effort by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Public Schools External Partnerships Office to promote learning opportunities in STEM. Since then, students from Dr. Martin Luther King Junior College Preparatory High School have visited various project sites with HNTB staff while also receiving hands-on opportunities to learn engineering principles such as project planning and the basics of building complex structures.

Additionally, HNTB’s Los Angeles office completed a successful inaugural partnership in 2017 with the Los Angeles Board of Public Works and the Los Angeles Unified School District’s first all-girls middle/high school – the Girls Academic Leadership Academy – to help supplement the school’s STEM curriculum with the goal of attracting more female students to pursue degrees and professions where females traditionally are underrepresented.

Faerber has taken a leadership role in the industry through a variety of professional organizations, including the American Road and Transportation Builders Association. He currently serves on the board of directors and previously served as president of ARTBA’s Planning and Design Division where he received the Guy Kelcey Award for his “high degree of service” to the association. He also has been actively involved in the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, Construction Industry Roundtable and the Construction Management Association of America.

Faerber earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Marquette University and a Master of Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University.
