CHICAGO – HNTB today celebrated its 50th business anniversary of providing infrastructure solutions in Illinois.

HNTB first established a Chicago office in 1967, and since then, has played a key role in planning, design and construction for many of the region’s most impactful transportation infrastructure projects. This includes design for the Chicago Transit Authority’s Wilson Station reconstruction; program management for the Illinois Tollway’s $14 billion Move Illinois program; planning and implementation of capital improvement programs at both O’Hare and Midway International Airports; construction engineering and inspection services for reconstruction of the Dan Ryan Expressway; a bridge type study and architectural services for the North Avenue Bridge; and design engineering services for the Chicagoland Speedway.

The firm’s current office on South Wacker Drive employs more than 170 professionals working on a variety of projects and programs in highways and tollways, transit and rail, program management, bridges, aviation and environmental planning.

“HNTB is honored to celebrate 50 years of shaping infrastructure in Chicagoland, from advancing public transit and tollways to revitalizing highways and bridges,” said Matt Hintze, PE, HNTB Great Lakes Division president. “Building trust and long-term relationships with clients in the region is how the firm consistently has been able to provide technically innovative, meaningful work that has helped shape our multimodal transportation systems.”

HNTB is committed to helping provide Chicago high school students with paths to sustainable careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), through its SPARK Program, established in 2015. The program is a partnership with Chicago Public Schools and the City of Chicago as part of a larger effort by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to promote learning opportunities in STEM. Over the past two years, HNTB has worked with students from Dr. Martin Luther King Junior College Preparatory High School, a local magnet school, to provide an up-close look at the world of design, construction and engineering through engagement at project sites and mentoring by HNTB professionals.

Additionally, HNTB’s Chicago office is dedicated to partnering with and mentoring disadvantaged business enterprises. The firm’s Partners Program has committed to providing business opportunities for woman-owned, minority-owned and other disadvantaged businesses since 2009.

“Our firm believes that we have a business obligation to offer smaller companies insight into industry processes,” said Dave Crosson, PE, HNTB Illinois office leader and senior vice president. “Building strong relationships with colleagues who are starting a new business strengthens the entire infrastructure community.”

Throughout HNTB’s history in Illinois, the firm’s projects and professionals have received industry recognition, winning several awards at the national and state levels. HNTB’s joint-venture owner’s representative team for the Chicago Department of Aviation’s Capital Improvement Program, CARE Plus, LLC, earned a 2017 Project Achievement Award for   Runway 10L-28R renovation at Chicago O’Hare International Airport from the Construction Management Association of America-Chicago Chapter. Additionally, HNTB’s Chicago office earned the 2016 Employer of the Year award from the Greater Chicago chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar and the 2015 Professional Services of the Year award from the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association.

“HNTB looks forward to continuing our long history of taking a leadership role in delivering infrastructure solutions and technical excellence throughout Illinois so the region can grow and prosper through the construction of a modern and efficient transportation network,” said Crosson.
