Denver, Colo – The International Erosion Control Association Region One (IECA) staff, board of directors and members would like to extend their experience to support to victims of recent hurricanes in southeast Texas, the Caribbean Islands, Florida and Puerto Rico.

“Our members have a vast knowledge of drainage, stormwater and water quality management and preventative coastal erosion experience that can help these areas get back on their feet,” explained Sharan Wilson, IECA Director.

Recent news coverage provided the world with a glimpse of the devastation Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria cast over many areas. IECA’s members are specifically trained in providing support for coastal erosion, stormwater management and other erosion and sediment control hazards brought on by the natural disasters.

For instance, the South Central IECA Chapter has reached out to provide expertise and technical support to Harris County and the Houston Public Works and Engineering Department to help with drainage, stormwater systems and water quality to help minimize future problems in the Houston/Harris County watershed.

“Our members can help with recovery efforts in these states by evaluating and reviewing stormwater best management practices (BMPs),” concluded Wilson.  “The South Central IECA Chapter is poised to help Texas work on infrastructure and our other chapters are rallying quickly to offer their support in affected as well.”

Members and industry professionals who are interested in learning more about stormwater management, can visit our online learning center for training opportunities.  IECA also launched a members-only resource library featuring case studies, videos and white papers on this topic.
