Global design firm Stantec has consolidated its five New York offices and nearly 360 staff in one landmark location at 475 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

The firm’s employees—architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, and environmental and management professionals— now occupy 40,000 square feet over four floors in the 24-story LEED® Silver certified building.

One of the largest design firms in the world with 22,000 employees, Stantec has been steadily expanding its presence in New York City through organic and acquisition growth.

“Our business objective is to be a top tier integrated design services provider, wherever we operate,” says Tom Walsh, Stantec’s Northeast regional leader. “In New York City, our depth of experience in creating communities and regenerating cities clearly translates into 360 degrees of impact. Our new location gives us a great physical platform to embark on this next exciting chapter.”

In this one-of-a-kind city, Stantec has joined the talents of industry veterans with long histories in NYC and young professionals now making their mark, says James Branch, a senior principal, and the office leader.

“Technology connects all of us, but there is no substitute for taking that short walk over to someone’s desk to work through a vexing technical challenge or brainstorm a fresh approach.  Fittingly, our office is a microcosm of this great city – engaging, creative, committed design professionals, making an impact,” says Branch.

Stantec interior designers Sharon Steinberg and Charles Mitchem created the new space for their discerning colleagues. “Because so many of us are new to each other, it was important to draw employees to other floors, and across floors,” says Mitchem.  The design team used common areas such as cafés, a materials resource library, even consolidated printing centers, to be places that encourage interaction.

Illustrating the power of collaboration, on September 19th more than 85 employees will participate in the firm’s fifth annual Stantec in the Community Day.  They’ll be headed to Riverside State Park to replace wood on park benches and on the Amphitheater floor.  They’ll be part of a 13,000 volunteer force across the globe.

475 Fifth Avenue is managed by JLL, and features outstanding views of the iconic New York Public Library and Bryant Park and is just blocks from Grand Central Terminal.
